2008 ASPE/EPE Show Features Newest Technologies and Innovations

The 2008 ASPE (American Society of Plumbing Engineers) Engineered Plumbing Exposition was held in Long Beach California October 28-29, 2008. The show brought together thousands of professionals skilled in the design, development, specification and inspection of plumbing systems. The bi-annual event featured the newest technologies and innovations in plumbing system design. More than 300 exhibitors displayed a wide variety of items from pipes, pumps and fixtures, to compressors, computers, and consulting services. The show’s offering allowed engineers and specifiers to view the latest and most innovative materials available to plumbing professionals today, and enabled engineers to get in touch with the latest industry trends in health, welfare, energy savings and public safety. Numerous one- and two-day technical and professional development seminars featuring the most up to date topics in the plumbing industry were conducted at the event.

The Moen booth featured many new product offerings this year. These included the heavy-duty suite of products which resist vandalism and provide years of dependable service, as well as the much sought after water-saving line of FreeHand sensor operated faucets and flush valves

A raffle with the grand prize of a 42” Sony TV was conducted on each day of the show and the winners are: Robert Morris of Plano, TX and Michael Mullins of Selkirk, NY.  Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone for stopping in the Moen booth at the show. See you in Philadelphia in 2010.

MOEN Commercial products can contribute up to 2 points toward a building’s LEED Certification

What is LEED?

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rate System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance.

LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health; sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. LEED provides a roadmap for measuring and documenting success for every building type and phase of a building lifecycle.

LEED CREDITS WE 3.1 and WE 3.2 Water Use Reduction:

Credit 3.1- Water Use Reduction: 20% (10% for existing buildings):

Earn one point by reducing overall water consumption in the building by 20%

Credit 3.2-Waer Use Reduction: 30% (20% for existing buildings):

Earn an additional point (two points total) by reducing overall water consumption in the building by 30%

*These reductions are based on the baseline fixture performance requirements of the Energy Policy Act of 1992. Standards are subject to change.

Moen Commercial Goes Green and Scores at Montreal’s New Saputo Stadium

Commercial Division Electronic Product Line Featured in Canada’s Second Largest Soccer

Stadium

When more than 13,000 fans filled Saputo Stadium on Inauguration Night last May, Moen Canada also was on site to make sure everything was flowing smoothly – literally. The latest in Moen Commercial electronic faucets and flush valves had just been installed in every public- and player- area washrooms of the brand-new, ultra-modern soccer complex. The 1.6 million square feet stadium was built on the former practice track and field site on the grounds of the 1976 Summer Olympics at a cost of $14.1 million of private funds.

“Just like the Montreal Impact players were excited to play, we at Moen were looking forward to show how great our commercial products are,” proudly said Moen Canada eastern regional manager Sylvain Fournier. “With the Purolator Distribution Centre project completed at the end of last year, this is one of the largest the Moen team has been involved with in Montreal. This contract was exciting because it called for nothing but the best, and that includes some 225 Moen electronic lavatory faucets and flush valves.”

Moen Commercial products were chosen because they offer the best solution for the conservation of water and energy as well as good return on investment. “The builders were looking for commercial products that promoted environmentally responsible building and design,” explained Saputo Stadium director of operations Éric Girouard, “and specific instructions were given to all our contractors: products must not only meet all design specs and have style, but also be heavy-duty and vandal-resistant.”

All of Moen’s Commercial electronic products save energy and are backed by a five-year warranty against material or manufacturing defects. In addition, should there be a need for replacement parts, Moen products are distributed nationwide, making them the most easily acquired parts in the industry.

“While over 265,000 people have used the facilities so far, not one single service call had to be made,” concluded Ierfino. “In the long run, this means substantial savings for the owners and speaks eloquently of Moen’s commitment to quality and sustainable development.”
