ASPE Boston Chapter Biennial Product Expo, Nov. 13
The ASPE Boston Chapter Biennial Product Expo will be held at Lantana in Randolph, MA, on November 13 from 3 to 8 pm. There will be 90 exhibitors/manufactures showing the latest offerings in the plumbing industry. There is no charge for admission for architects, engineers, contractors, code officials, facility managers and other members of the plumbing community. There will be a charge for the all day session.

Rheem Unveils the Industry’s First Tankless Water Heater Sizing Software
Rheem Water Heating recently became the first industry manufacturer to offer computer software specifically intended for sizing tankless water heaters for residential and commercial installations.

 

Based on the widely used CertiSpec3 software for Rheem-Ruud commercial water heaters, the new EZ-Spec tankless software application is now available for download at www.rheemtankless.com in the “Products” menu.

 

Program offers drop-down menus and easy-to-understand fields. The user selects a specific application (e.g., single-family home, townhome/apartment, restaurant, school, health club, laundromat, hotel) from a drop-down menu, and then enters relevant sizing data, fuel type, and the number of hot-water fixtures, input and output water temperatures, and flow rates. To ensure accuracy, the program incorporates the specific flow rates for an extensive array of residential and commercial hot-water appliances.

 

With user-supplied input, the program will indicate the optimal Rheem tankless solution for a given application in a few seconds including suggested accessories to facilitate the installation. Installers can also generate a summary report, suitable to print or send via e-mail. The report also includes the project name and customer contact information.

Used in various high-pressure industrial applications, pipe nipples meet or exceed all ASTM and ANSI standards, to include ASTM A-106 for material and ANSI B1.20.1 for threading.

IAPMO Hires Special Services Director IAPMO recently hired Dave Viola as director of special services. Prior to joining IAPMO, Viola served as technical director for the Plumbing Manufacturers Institute (PMI), where he oversaw all plumbing code, plumbing product standard, product certification and technical training activities. In his new role at IAPMO, Viola will be assessing what is state-of-the-art in green building and sustainable construction codes and standards and will spearhead IAPMO’s increased coordination and involvement with these activities.

Uponor Names Sourcing Expert, Greg Lawler, Vice President of Supply Chain Uponor North America recently announced that Gregory J. Lawler has joined the company as vice president of supply chain and as a member of the Senior Management Committee. Reporting directly to executive vice president Anders Tollsten, Lawler will provide strategic leadership to supply chain and materials management in North America, with specific responsibilities in inventory control, warehousing, transportation, purchasing and logistics.

ASHRAE Awards First Certification for Healthcare Facility Design The recipient of ASHRAE’s first healthcare facility design professional certification says the designation increases his value as an engineer. Ildefonso Bayron Jr. is an associate partner for Syska Hennessy Group, Los Angeles, CA. He and 28 others recently earned certification after passing the exam at ASHRAE’s 2007 Annual Meeting. ASHRAE’s certification program identifies individuals who have mastered a body of knowledge covering successful design and operation of healthcare facilities.
