Sloan Valve Earns EPA's "2007 Green Power Leadership" Award

EPA has awarded Sloan Valve Co. the Green Power Leadership Award for its Green Power Purchase. Sloan offsets 100% of the energy used in its Franklin Park facility with renewable energy.

"Our purchase of renewable energy credits (REC) is a very important and it is a valid part of our corporate mission toward sustainability," says Sloan's Jim Allen. "But, it isn't the only thing we do. For example, we are dramatically reducing the energy we consume to light our facility. Our reductions will have a meaningful effect on our CO2 emissions and reduce our carbon footprint."

EPA presented Sloan with the Green Power Purchaser Award as part of a national competition that recognizes the leading market-based deployments of renewable energy technologies. The Green Power awards ceremony took place in October during the 12th National Green Power Marketing Conference in Philadelphia.

Sloan Valve Co.'s purchase of 20 million kilowatt-hours of green power is a unique commitment coming from a family-owned plumbing equipment manufacturer.

"As we go forward, our REC purchase will continue to be important, but we believe more important will be the actual reductions in energy consumption that we, as a company, achieve through our various initiatives," Allen adds. "It's a long road, and we are on our first steps of the journey."

"Our field sales representatives receive numerous questions about water conservation topics -- everything from 'what is the USGBC?' to 'how do I get LEED points?' to 'are there sustainable plumbing products available today?'" says Moen's Allen Talley.
